Storm damaged leader on Eucalyptus tidied up to allow for healthy regrowth. Cut wood left in manageable sections suitable for firewood.
Skilled work is required to tidy up the obvious wound to the tree structure.
Neat, tidy work to improve aesthetics and ensure the ongoing health of the tree.
A smaller job down in nearby Cheltenham entailed a repair to some storm damage on a Eucalyptus that had its main leader broken in a storm and left hanging in place. Storm damage at this time of year is quite commonplace and in this instance the main stem of the tree was sheered out by some strong winds and possible water weight from the excessive rain. The fallen leader was removed and brought safely down to ground level where it was cut into sections and stacked neatly for a source of future firewood. The exposed wound was cleaned up with some suitable cuts to allow for a long stem to be left behind. This then would facilitate some healthy regrowth and regeneration of a replacement leader and/or multiple reshoots to create a lush new canopy for the tree. A full recovery is expected as in these instances the wound should form a hardy callous from which the subsequent regrowth can then occur. Trees that are well managed in this way respond to damage from storms with a burst of new growth and as long as the wound sections are cut cleanly and back to the right area of the tree, the prospect of any infection or disease entering the wound site remains quite low. Trees themselves are quite hardy and with regular health checks on larger specimens in particular, any issues that are discovered early mean a good chance of survival in all but the most extreme cases.
