Here’s a Landscaper Designer That Goes the Extra Yard

Meet Matt, owner of Matt Perry Gardens. Specialising in creating exceptional outdoor living spaces, Matt says “We do anything and everything outside the house.”

A quiet achiever with a love for natural landscapes, his work speaks volumes. From statement pieces like sandstone features to lighting installations, decking, outdoor kitchens and urban jungles—Matt approaches every project with both passion and enthusiasm.

“I started out mowing lawns, doing odd jobs and washing cars but soon realised I enjoyed gardening,” Matt says. “So I studied Horticulture, Landscape Construction and Landscape Design at TAFE.”

With a Certificate III in Horticulture, Certificate III in Landscape Construction and a Diploma of Landscape Design, Matt’s ahead of the curve when it comes to landscape design in highly urbanised areas like Sydney. A qualified horticulturalist for over a decade, Matt’s ability to transform bland backyards into beautiful spaces reflects his level of expertise.

Experienced in landscaping, design and construction throughout the Greater Sydney area, Matt confronts all sorts of challenges along the way. Narrow blocks with tight access, sloping contours, rocky soil conditions, council regulation and diseased trees are some of many considerations to contend with. But that doesn’t faze Matt one bit. Extensive knowledge of the ‘lay of the land’ in each Sydney LGA allows him to confidently complete each unique project with success.

“Do it once, do it right,” is his motto. Combining a broad knowledge of flora and landscape materials with a strong design sense, Matt puts the client’s needs at the centre of each project. This comprises small, medium and large projects in the inner city, inner west, north shore, northern beaches, Hills District, greater western Sydney, Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains, southern and southeastern Sydney.

But that feeling of accomplishment when completing a job takes the cake. “It’s pretty awesome when you’re dealing with something people have invested a lot of time, money and thought into – prior to us coming in. To then hand over something they are going to look at every day, love and be happy with, and share with friends and neighbours all makes the hard work worth it,” Matt beams.

“Even with the unseen but necessary jobs like drainage and repairs – it’s all important in making our client feel pleased and comfortable in their property.”

Business partnerships are a trust thing

Matt met Julian Parry, director of Arbor Pride in his early career. With a common passion for horticulture, similar interests in gardening and a shared customer-centric business ethos, a business partnership grew.

“It’s a trust thing,” Matt says, often referring tree work to Arbor Pride. “Julian is a good businessman and bloody good at what he does. The team at Arbor Pride makes the effort of doing things right and not cutting corners.”

“Not many people in his position would get on the tools, but he’s still climbing trees. He’s just an honest dude.”

While Matt’s a leader in his craft, tree work involving tree removal and pruning falls on qualified arborists, which is where Arbor Pride come into the picture. Both Matt and Julian ‘tag team’ on a complicated job that requires specialist tree care and premium landscape design.

“We like to think of our partnership as a one-stop-shop solution,” Julian says. “We work together to solve problems and come up with solutions for the client. With Matt’s level of skill and attention to detail, the client is really looked after.”

Since establishing Matt Perry Gardens, Matt’s goal has remained to design and construct beautiful outdoor living spaces that reflect his clients’ needs. With energy and skilled craftsmanship, Matt approaches every project with quality and care. To learn more about Matt Perry Gardens visit www.mattperrygardens.com.au
